North Cyprus is more than holidays in Kyrenia and holidays in Famagusta where travellers can enjoy sun, sand and sea of North Cyprus .But addition to charming hotels with modern facilities where you can enjoy traditional Mediterranean holidays, Kyrenia Holidays and Famagusta Holidays holidays offer a chance to discover much more to discerning travellers North Cyprus is the hidden Jewel of the Mediterranean; an exquisite and unspoilt island laid open for you to explore; echoing times gone by with its rustic villages, ancient towns, harbours, castles and slow pace of life.North Cyprus is practically bursting with culture, hospitality and history. Soaked in the glorious Mediterranean sun and located only 40 miles from Turkey, the coastline of Northern Cyprus is hemmed in by utterly idyllic golden sandy beaches, whilst inland; the terrain gives way to rolling hills and breathtaking mountain ranges. This is complimented by the heady scent of Honeysuckle and Jasmine flowers, of which the whole island seems to be awash, giving these landscapes a surreal and dreamlike quality. Nestled within three continents, Northern Cyprus offers you an endless array of things to do and see, or not, if you wish to simply relax with a spot of fishing or just lie back and indulge in the sunshine! For the more energetic, there are many castles to be explored and historical cities and buildings to be appreciated. The beaches offer water sports such as jet skiing and scuba diving, or you can sail the seas on one of the many wonderful boating excursions available. The maze-like towns are full of shops selling traditional handicrafts as well as more modern outlets selling clothes, jewellery and perfume, to satisfy even the most enthusiastic of shoppers. Nightlife centres on eating out, which is not a surprise given the wonderful cuisine of the Turkish Cypriots who inhabit the island. Mezes (a vast array of hot and cold appetizers), Kebabs, fresh grilled fish, and stews filled with herbs and spices, with influences from Turkey, the Middle East and Mediterranean, make up a typical meal. Fruits, syrupy desserts, Turkish teas and coffees and an optional glass of Raki (an alcoholic aniseed drink) will round up your dining experience, as will the welcoming and cheery locals clinking their glasses on the surrounding tables. North Cyprus is a vibrant, warm and blissful island which will leave you with the fondest memories and is guaranteed to be one destination you will want to visit time and time again. The island of Cyprus is considered to be a cradle of western civilization. The ancient towns of Famagusta, Kyrenia, Karpaz, Lefke, Guzelyurt, Nicosia or Yeni Iskele have many historical places which are worth seeing.

Discover North Cyprus

Discover North Cyprus

Northern Cyprus is a sparkling Jewel of the Mediterranean Sea, located 40 miles from the coast of Turkey,
60 miles from the coast of Syria and 250 miles north of Egypt. As a holiday destination it has grown in
popularity as travellers searching for less overcrowded tourist spots with great value for money have discovered
the beauty of its coastlines and the friendliness of its people. Thankfully for the island itself, North Cyprus
has yet to be overtaken by the kind of mass tourism that is found on the south of the island and other Mediterranean
hot spots, such as Turkey and spain.  However, North Cyprus is by no means remote and there are regular flights, some
top class hotels, lively resorts.  In short, it currently has the perfect balance between unspoilt and touristy,
making this a great time to discover Northern Cyprus with jewels of the med.

One of the reasons North Cyprus is such a popular destination with tourists is the all year round fabulous weather.
Mild winters and hot summers make it an attractive option for those travelling from less dependable climates and a
pretty safe bet for a holiday in the sun.  Summer generally starts in May when temperatures begin to climb above 25
degrees and in July when the heat peaks, highs can reach a melting 40 degrees.  Temperatures at night tend to drop
to around 21 degrees, even in summer, so tourists usually have no problem sleeping.  Around November, the heat begins
to fade, although rarely below 16 degrees.

Whatever type of holiday you happen to be looking for, you will find it in North Cyprus.  Beach bunnies will be over
the moon with the breathtaking stretches of golden sand and there are a number of beaches that easily rival the Caribbean,
such as Nagomi beach, which is said to be the best on the entire island.  If you are a fan of nature then North Cyprus has
lots to offer with opportunities to watch turtles lay and hatch their eggs on the beaches during the April – October egging
season and wild donkeys to meet on the Karpas peninsula.  If you like water sports then these are plentiful too, with jet
skiing, banana boating and canoeing available from many of the beaches along the coast, and a number of scuba diving centres
where you can obtain a scuba certificate or simply enjoy a dive around a wreck or a reef.

Eating and Drinking

Eating out is one of the biggest pleasures of a holiday to North Cyprus as the local Turkish Cypriot cuisine offers
a mouthwatering range of dishes for visitors to try.  Meze is a popular choice here, particularly at lunchtime when the
weather is hot, or as an appetizer in the evenings, and lots of lamb, goat and pork is eaten with plenty of cumin, as well
as the local, waxy potatoes.  Deserts are to die for with baklava, honeyed donuts and local rice pudding to tickle your
tastebuds, as well as fresh and marinated fruits.  Try a local brandy sour on a night out – a combination of brandy with
bitters and lemon squash – or sample one of the local wines or a Raki, the Turkish version of Pernod.

If you are looking for a raucous 24 hour party destination then you may be better off aiming for the south of Cyprus
than the north.  Having said this, North Cyprus has a health sprinkling of clubs and bars, particularly in towns like
Kyrenia, Famagusta and Nicosia.  Establishments like Escape Beach Club in Kyrenia are modelled on the Ibizan beach bar
experience and are a great option for a chilled out drink late into the night.  For a serious night of clubbing there
are options such as Roxanne’s at The Rocks hotel, The Cherenis Gardens and Night park, all in Kyrenia.

Northern Cyprus Nicosia

Northern Cyprus Nicosia

Ledra Street is in the middle of the walled city. The street has historically been the busiest shopping street of the capital and adjacent streets lead to the most lively part of the old city with narrow streets, boutiques, bars and art-cafés. The street today is a historic monument on its own. It is about 1 km (0.6 mi) long and connects the south and north parts of the old city. During the EOKA struggle that ran from 1955–1959, the street acquired the informal nickname The Murder Mile in reference to the frequent targeting of the British colonialists by nationalist fighters along its course.[13][14] In 1963, during the outbreak of hostilities between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities, following the announcement of amendments to the Cypriot Constitution, Turkish Cypriots withdrew to the northern part of Nicosia which became one of the many Turkish Cypriot enclaves which existed throughout the island. Various streets which ran between the northern and southern part of the city, including Ledra Street, were blockaded. During the Turkish army invasion of Cyprus in 1974, Turkish troops occupied northern Nicosia (as well as the northern part of Cyprus). A buffer zone was established across the island along the ceasefire line to separate the northern Turkish controlled part of the island, and the south. The buffer zone runs through Ledra Street. After many failed attempts on reaching agreement between the two communities, Ledra Street was reopened on 3 April 2008.
